METAL FREE FILLINGS

TOOTH COLORED FILLINGS FOR A NATURAL LOOKING SMILE

For hundreds of years, dental fillings have been used to restore teeth. Dental fillings are placed in teeth where Dr.Evans has had to remove tooth structure due to decay or fracture. In recent years questions arose about the safety of dental amalgam, the toxicity of its mercury content, and concern about mercury emissions when it is disposed of. Technology and products have also come a long way in recent years providing uses other less obvious, metal free filling options for tooth restoration. For this reason, Dr. Evans helps patients by using only metal free, tooth colored fillings, in avoidance of these concerns and for aesthetic results.

Teeth may require an inlay to restore the strength & health of the structure.
The decayed portion of the tooth is removed from the sound tooth structure.
Filling materials is shaped to match the look and feel of natural teeth. Traditionally, silver or amalgam material has been the filling of choice.
Today, many modern materials can be used to mimic the color and texture of natural teeth.

Products used for this treatment:

Fillings are used to fill in cavities and can also be used to repair cracked, broken, and worn teeth. Dr. Evans will numb the tooth in need of a filling and remove the decayed area. He will then prepare the area by cleaning the area, making sure any bacteria or debris is removed. The tooth colored material, composite resin, is then applied in layers and “cured” with a special light that hardens the composite material. Once that is complete Dr. Evans will shape the material by trimming off any excess material, then polish the final restoration.

ADVANTAGES OF METAL-FREE FILLINGS

Composite, tooth-colored fillings, can be closely matched to your natural tooth color and is particularly well suited for front teeth or any others that have high visibility. Tooth-colored fillings using composite materials, also requires less removal of the natural tooth material in order to place them, which can result in smaller fillings in comparison to amalgam and will actually bond itself to the tooth structure providing extra support to the tooth.
